EAZA Campaigns

About This Project

Since 2000, the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) has organised several conservation campaigns, which are rolled out across the network’s zoos to meet two objectives:
-to raise visitors’ awareness of the issues addressed
– to collect funds to finance conservation programmes related to this theme
Over the years, a variety of issues have come under the spotlight, including global warming, great apes, Madagascan wildlifeas well as local biodiversity.

More than 100 zoos and aquariums have taken part in each campaign, encouraging millions of visitors to get involved and take action. In more than 15 years, over 5 million euros have been collected, helping to finance almost 150 conservation projects!

These campaigns have also resulted in new legislation, notably regarding the killing of great apes for the bushmeat trade.
