The Australian sprinter
The second largest bird in the world after the ostrich, like all ratites, the emu is flightless. It is the only bird to have muscles in its lower leg, which means it can run for long periods and reach speeds up to 50 km/h! Its powerful kick is a formidable weapon.
Another interesting fact: it has no feathers on its neck, just blue skin, and its eggs are dark green in colour!
You will find our emus living in the same enclosure as the Bennett’s wallabies.
