Lord of our forests…
Red deer are found in the forests of Europe, North America, China and Russia… and even in Algeria and Tunisia!
The males are more imposing than the females, who do not have antlers. The young fawns have spotted markings to help camouflage them in vegetation; the spots disappear by the time they are adults.
You’ll see an entire herd of red deer at La Barben zoo; depending on the season, you might be able to observe the different stages of antler growth on the males… and perhaps some fawns, generally born in May and June.
Since 2018, they have been evolving in a new wooded area of 2,500 m2!
