Ancestor of the domestic dog, the grey wolf (or European wolf) is a social animal and lives in packs. Each member has a defined status, and the pack’s senior or alpha pair are the only ones to breed.
Though wolves disappeared from France in the 1930s, they returned naturally 60 years later… but not without controversy, and attacks on farm animals are the main source of current conflict with humans.
At La Barben zoo, the pack evolves in a new wooded area of 3800 m2!
